Young Adult Rehab That Doesn’t Put Your Life on Hold

Your late teens and twenties are when life is supposed to start: school, first real jobs, your own place, relationships that matter. When alcohol or drugs get tangled up in all of that, it can feel like the only options are to keep going or to drop everything for treatment.

Outpatient treatment is the third option. At Sunview you live at home or in your own place, keep the parts of your life that are working, and come to group therapy at set times during the week. You meet one-on-one with your primary therapist every week, and if medication is part of your care, psychiatric appointments through Telemed Clinix are scheduled for you.

There’s no separate young adult track. You join the same licensed clinical groups as everyone else, which means you sit with adults at different stages of life and recovery. For a lot of young adults, that turns out to be one of the most useful parts: people a few steps ahead who are honest about how they got there.

What brings young adults in

Young Adult Drug Rehab and Alcohol Treatment for What We See Most

Substance use is rarely the only thing going on

Alcohol and weekend use that stopped being weekends

What started at parties now shows up on a Tuesday, and the hangovers are costing classes or shifts.

Pills, powders and pressed tablets

Molly, Xanax, cocaine and pills bought from someone, with no way to know what is actually in them.

Daily cannabis

Smoking to sleep, to eat, to stop thinking. Sunview is abstinence-based, and cannabis is part of that.

Anxiety and depression underneath

Many young adults are using to manage how they feel. We treat both together as dual diagnosis.

Feeling stuck

Not working, not in school, not sure what comes next. Read about failure to launch.

Trauma and identity

Hard experiences, family conflict and questions about who you are that substances made quieter for a while.

Want to read first? Our articles on what is actually in molly, THCA vs THC and Xanax side effects answer questions young adults ask us often. When anxiety or depression is part of the picture, we treat it alongside substance use as dual diagnosis, and we treat ADHD alongside substance use as well.

Matching the schedule to your life

IOP for Young Adults, PHP or Evening IOP: Which Program Fits

Our Clinical Director recommends the level. The schedule follows your life.

In school or working full time

Evening IOP

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, 6 to 9 PM

Class or work schedule you can plan around

Day IOP

Three mornings a week, 9 AM to 1 PM

Between things, or leaving detox or residential

PHP

Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 1 PM

Stepping down after IOP

OP

One morning a week

These are common starting points, not rules. After a short pre-screening, our Clinical Director recommends the level of care using ASAM criteria and clinical judgment, and you step down with the same team as you get stronger.

How Parents and Family Can Be Part of Young Adult Treatment

At 18 you’re an adult, and your treatment is your decision. That also means we share information only with your written consent. With it, we reach out to your family in the first week and bring them in at a pace that works for you.

Our Clinical Director, Dana Martin, is a couple and family therapist, and Sunview’s clinical model looks at the whole system around a person, not just the person in the chair.

Help for families
  • Information shared only with your written consent
  • Family contact in the first week, when you agree to it
  • Family sessions as clinically recommended
Beyond stopping

Young Adult Addiction Treatment That Builds Independence

Getting sober and staying sober are different jobs

Stopping is the first step. The longer work is learning to run your own life without the thing that was doing the heavy lifting: handling stress, conflict, boredom and disappointment, keeping commitments, and asking for help before it gets bad.

That work happens in group, where the real week gets brought into the room, and with your therapist, using approaches like CBT, DBT and Internal Family Systems. Our CEO, Frank Galimidi, writes about the difference in getting sober vs staying sober.

  1. 1Stabilize: build structure and stop using
  2. 2Understand: what the use was doing for you
  3. 3Practice: new responses in your real week
  4. 4Step down: less treatment, same team
