Admission criteria
Who Is a Good Fit for Sunview
Sunview is an outpatient program. These are the patients who tend to do well here.
- Age
- Adults, 18 and older.
- Stability
- Medically and psychiatrically stable enough to take part in programming safely and meaningfully.
- Coming from
- Stepping down from detox, residential or another higher level of care, or entering directly from the community.
- Diagnoses
- Substance use disorders, with co-occurring mental health conditions welcome and treated together.
- Medications
- Abstinence-based, not medication-free: naltrexone and buprenorphine/Suboxone are supported when a qualified outside provider prescribes and manages them.
- Readiness
- Motivated to make real changes in how they live, not only to stop using.
We treat substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions as one picture. Marijuana, stimulants, opioids and benzodiazepines aren’t permitted during programming.
Routing
Who Needs a Different Level of Care First
If a patient isn’t ready for outpatient care yet, we identify that during the pre-screening and refer to a more appropriate level of care. Sunview can be the next step afterward.
Risk of significant withdrawal, such as consistent, extended use of benzodiazepines or opioids

Three outpatient levels of care, with day and evening options. Patients go home every night.

Pre-screening review by the Clinical Director
The patient completes a pre-screening: reasons for seeking treatment, substance use and mental health history, living situation, previous treatment and current symptoms. Our Clinical Director reviews it and recommends the level of care, informed by ASAM criteria and clinical judgment.
Free benefits verification
Our admissions team checks the patient’s insurance at no cost: whether we’re in network, which level of care is covered and whether pre-authorization is needed.
Admission and warm handoff
Once the pre-screening is done and benefits are verified, patients can often be enrolled within 24 hours. With the patient’s signed release, we confirm admission and coordinate care.

Our clinical approach and outcomes- Group
- One continuous group from 9 AM to 1 PM, with breaks, led by the same facilitator all day, so the work goes deeper instead of switching topics every hour.Group therapy at Sunview
- Individual
- A weekly individual session with a primary therapist, typically 45 to 60 minutes, with extra sessions or check-ins when there’s a clinical need.
- Psychiatry
- Psychiatric evaluation and medication management through Telemed Clinix, seen virtually from a private office on site. Patients can keep the same provider after discharge.Psychiatry and medication management
- MAT
- Suboxone, Vivitrol and naltrexone stay with a qualified outside prescriber. We coordinate continuity with the current prescriber, or refer to one.
- Family
- With the patient’s consent, the primary therapist makes a first family contact within the first week of programming.Family therapy
- Measures
- Progress tracked with the Brief Addiction Monitor (BAM), PHQ-9 and GAD-7, with monthly treatment plan reviews.

Yes. Sunview is abstinence-based, but that doesn’t mean medication-free. We support buprenorphine/Suboxone and naltrexone when a qualified outside provider prescribes and manages them; our psychiatric partner, Telemed Clinix, doesn’t prescribe MAT. If the patient doesn’t have a prescriber, we can refer to one. We generally don’t admit patients who are maintained on methadone.
Yes. Along with commercial plans, we work with Florida Medicaid plans including Sunshine Health, AmeriHealth Caritas Florida, Molina Healthcare and Community Care Plan. Our admissions team checks the patient’s benefits for free. Insurance and payment.
Yes, when IOP is the right fit. Patients come to us from a higher level of care or directly from the community. Our Clinical Director recommends PHP, IOP or OP from the pre-screening, using ASAM criteria and clinical judgment.
