Recognizing it

Signs Cocaine Use Has Become a Problem

When “just this once” keeps coming back

Cocaine and crack can take hold quickly, and the pull often shows up as craving more than anything else. If you recognize yourself in some of these signs, it’s worth a conversation. You don’t need a plan or the right words to call.

Some common signs

  • You use more, or more often, than you planned
  • Cravings take over your thinking, especially around money, stress or certain people
  • Using turns into binges, followed by crashes that leave you drained or low
  • Money, work or relationships are slipping, and you keep using anyway
  • You hide how much you use
  • You feel on edge when you’re not using
  • You’ve promised yourself you’d stop, more than once

Recognizing a few of these is reason enough to call. You don’t need to be sure.

Treatment

How Sunview Treats Cocaine Addiction

Skills for the craving, insight for the pattern

Crack cocaine is one of the two substances we see most often at Sunview. Treatment happens in PHP, IOP or OP, so you keep living your life while you learn to handle it differently. You also meet one-on-one with your primary therapist every week for 45 to 60 minutes, and free door-to-door transportation to and from our center is available if you can’t drive yourself.

Understanding the craving

A craving is a signal, not a command. We look at when it shows up, what it’s tied to, and what it’s been trying to solve, then build skills to ride it out.

Practice in real life

You go home every night. When a trigger hits at work or with family, you bring it back to group the next day, and we slow it down together and try a different response.

Random drug testing

Testing is part of how we support your recovery and keep the group a safe place for everyone in it.

One group, one facilitator

The same clinician leads your group for the whole session, so trust builds and the work goes deeper.

Carefrontation

Honest feedback, given with care. Group members learn to name patterns without shaming anyone, and to hear hard things without shutting down.

The patterns underneath

Psychodynamic work and Internal Family Systems look at what sits beneath the use, so change lasts longer than willpower does.

The whole picture

Cocaine and Co-Occurring Mental Health

Treated together, by one team

Many people we work with are living with more than one thing at once: anxiety, depression, trauma or a personality disorder alongside substance use. Using can start as a way to cope with emotional pain, then make that pain worse. We treat the cycle between them, with psychiatric care through Telemed Clinix included. Read more about co-occurring mental health treatment.

If you’re also drinking heavily or using opioids or benzodiazepines, tell us during pre-screening. Medically supervised detox may need to come first for those, and we’ll help you plan the path back to us.

Week to week

What Treatment Looks Like Week to Week

Structure for the craving, one week at a time

You go home every night, so the work happens in real time. Here’s how the weeks usually go.

  1. Week one

    Getting started

Intake, your first groups and your first individual session. With your consent, your therapist contacts a loved one, and we schedule your Telemed Clinix psychiatric appointment for you.

  2. Mornings

One group, 9 AM to 1 PM

The same facilitator all morning, with breaks. Yesterday’s craving or trigger becomes today’s work.

  3. Or evenings

    Evening IOP after work

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6 to 9 PM.

  4. Every week

    Your own session

45 to 60 minutes with your primary therapist, plus random drug testing as part of your recovery support.

  5. Over time

    Stepping down

From PHP to IOP to OP, with the same team.

Level of care

Which Level of Care Fits

Where most people start with cocaine

If you need daily structure to break the cycle, the Partial Hospitalization Program meets every weekday morning. The Intensive Outpatient Program meets three days a week, day or evening, so you can keep working. The Outpatient Program keeps one morning a week in place as life gets steadier. Our Clinical Director recommends the level that fits you.

Psychiatric care and medication management

Sunview is outpatient care.

If detox, residential treatment or housing needs to come first, we’ll help you get there and plan Sunview as your next step.

It was the most rewarding experience I've had in such a long moment of time! The knowledge and expertise of the staff was immeasurable, of high quality and refreshing! A special shout out to Jillian my therapist, Carissa and Frank! This by no means is meant or intended to take from the excellent job done by each individual employee and Sunview. I'm not the type that would just throw around gratitude lightly! Last but not least, I want to give a shout out to all my peers and all participants of Sunview, for their unselfish willingness to surrender and assist the healing and recovery of others! God bless you! Love, Henry Edwards and Tiffany Cunningham!

Sunview Wellness was the icing on the cake in my mental health journey and recovery and it honestly changed my life for the better..This program was outstanding in the approach they implement to help all of their clients. The important thing is you have to really want the help and do the work to get where you want and need to be. I believe participation in the group therapy is essential even though it may not be easy at first. Every single person that works at Sunview Wellness is caring and really wants everyone to get well. Laura Contreras was my therapist and she is one of the most caring empathetic individuals I have ever come across. She was truly the right therapist for me. Mia stood out to me ( even though everyone was good) as an excellent group facilitator . Karissa Delaney the office manager was always a welcoming face in the morning. She was always willing to help out with any concerns or questions that I had. I was actually sad when my time came to leave Sunview even though I was ready. I made many friends and enjoyed the interaction with other people that GOT IT with NO JUDGEMENT! And Finally thank you Frank for overseeing and having such a wonderful place for people to come and heal. I’m forever greatful. 😊💕

Sunview Wellness is second to none. The staff at Sunview are amazing people who truly want to make their clients lives better and healthier. The staff provides you and others with an environment conducive to healing, learning and managing your life. You are able to express yourself without judgment from the staff or other clients. You are provided guidance through group sessions, private one-on-one sessions with a therapist and written materials to use outside of the facility. Although Sunview Wellness is a business and needs revenue to survive, the staff focuses predominately on your health and not on its bottom line. I highly recommend Sunview Wellness as an option for your path to healthier and more productive life.
