When low mood and substance use keep feeding each other, we treat the cycle.
Depression treated alongside substance use in outpatient PHP, IOP and OP, with therapy, psychiatric care and a team that tracks how you’re actually doing.

Relief that turns into the next low
At Sunview, depression is treated as part of dual diagnosis treatment, alongside substance use, within our Partial Hospitalization, Intensive Outpatient and Outpatient programs. Depressive disorders are among the conditions we see most often in people who come to us for addiction treatment.
The cycle tends to look familiar. Drinking or using starts as a way to cope with emotional pain: to get through a heavy evening, to feel something, or to feel less. For a while it helps. Then continued use deepens the depression it was supposed to ease, and the low mood makes the next drink or pill feel more necessary.
Over time the two become hard to pull apart. That’s why we don’t treat them as separate problems. We look at how they connect in your life and work on the whole pattern.
One connected picture, not two separate problems
Your therapist, group facilitator and psychiatric provider work from the same understanding of how your mood and your substance use affect each other.
We use the PHQ-9 throughout treatment to track depressive symptoms, and your therapist reviews your treatment plan with you every month.
A group that meets at the same time, with the same facilitator and the same people, gives your week a shape even on days you don’t feel like it.
You go home every day. The hard evening or the good morning comes back to the room, and we work through it together.
Skills for today, insight for what’s underneath
Coping skills help you get through a low day. Insight helps you understand why the low days and the using became linked in the first place. We work on both, at a pace that feels safe.
How therapy works at SunviewIncluded in treatment, and there after you finish
Psychiatric evaluation and medication management are part of every program through our partner, Telemed Clinix. Your provider reviews any antidepressant or other medication you already take and adjusts only when it’s clinically indicated. Appointments happen virtually from a private office at Sunview, and prescriptions go to the pharmacy you choose.
Medication can help you stabilize. The therapy is where you build the insight and skills that last. And when you finish, you can keep the same provider.
Our Clinical Director helps you decide
Many people start in the Partial Hospitalization Program, where daily structure helps when motivation is low, especially after detox or residential care. The Intensive Outpatient Program, day or evening, fits when you need depth and have to keep working. The Outpatient Program keeps support in place as life fills back up.
Sunview is outpatient care.
If detox, residential treatment or housing needs to come first, we’ll help you get there and plan Sunview as your next step.

Sunview Wellness is second to none. The staff at Sunview are amazing people who truly want to make their clients lives better and healthier. The staff provides you and others with an environment conducive to healing, learning and managing your life. You are able to express yourself without judgment from the staff or other clients. You are provided guidance through group sessions, private one-on-one sessions with a therapist and written materials to use outside of the facility. Although Sunview Wellness is a business and needs revenue to survive, the staff focuses predominately on your health and not on its bottom line. I highly recommend Sunview Wellness as an option for your path to healthier and more productive life.

Gabe is awesome! I have had therapists before at other practices and he is one of the most empathetic and down to earth providers I have had. The group facilitators and other staff there are very kind and helpful as well. The support to get you back onto a good mental health path is amazing. Would recommend if you want more help than just a one on one therapist but want to still go home and/or work after.

I just wanted to express my gratitude, every single staff was so kind and compassionate. It took me a while to actually be receptive to the things they were teaching me and trying to help me. But once I was and truly understood and was willing to help myself too it was magic. I’m grateful for them. I’d recommend them to anyone! I also would recommend for Sunview to include same sex groups at least once a week, I believe it helps common issues and resolution insight and connection a more comfortable space for the same sex to connect to each other without feeling judgement or afraid to express their opinions and experiences in front of the other sex. (In my afternoon groups was primary female and it was an amazing experience) so much props to Sunview for giving me the tools and resources to believe myself and better myself! Thank for to every staff member there!!!!
