Frank Galimidi, CEO of Sunview Wellness in Palm Beach County, discussed his 23-year career in substance use disorder and mental health treatment. He explained that outpatient programs differ from inpatient rehabilitation by allowing clients to return home daily while learning to manage their recovery in real-world settings. Frank noted that Sunview Wellness provides various levels of care for individuals dealing with substance use disorders, mental health issues, and combinations of both, with programs available during both daytime and evening hours.
Outpatient Treatment for Substance Use at Sunview
Summary by the Sunview Wellness team
In this interview, Frank describes the core difference between outpatient and inpatient care: people go home at the end of each treatment day and practice recovery in the places where they actually live. For someone with a substance use disorder, partial hospitalization (PHP) is the most structured outpatient option at Sunview Wellness, with treatment every weekday morning, about 20 hours a week, and afternoons and evenings at home. It often works as a step down after detox or residential treatment, or as a starting point when round-the-clock care isn’t needed. Treatment addresses alcohol and drug use together with the mental health conditions that often come with it, and as care steps down, intensive outpatient groups are offered in both the daytime and the evening. You can read about the substances we treat on our substance use treatment page and what a PHP week includes on our partial hospitalization program page.
