Does Aetna Cover Outpatient Addiction Treatment?

Aetna is one of the most common names we see on insurance cards in Palm Beach County, usually through an employer. Most Aetna plans include behavioral health and substance use benefits, and outpatient levels of care like PHP, IOP and OP are generally covered when they are medically necessary. What that looks like for you depends on the specific plan your employer or your household chose.

If you changed jobs recently or your employer switched plans at renewal, your Aetna benefits may not match what you had last year. Tell us when your current plan started, and we’ll check the plan you have today, including whether PHP, IOP and OP each need approval on it.

Coverage always depends on the plan: its network, whether approval is needed first, and your share of the cost. We never quote amounts before we’ve checked, and we won’t tell you anything is fully covered until your plan confirms it.

Using Your Aetna Plan at Sunview

Sunview is in network with Aetna. Here is how the most common plan structures usually affect starting outpatient treatment.

Employer-sponsored plans: If your Aetna coverage comes through work, your employer chose the plan design. Two coworkers with Aetna cards can have different rules, so we check your plan, not the carrier in general.
PPO plans: PPO plans usually let you see in-network providers without a referral. Staying in network is what keeps your costs predictable, which is why we confirm our status on your specific plan first.
HMO and EPO plans: These plans typically cover in-network care only, and an HMO may ask for a referral from your primary care provider. If yours does, we’ll tell you before you start so nothing gets held up.
Individual plans: If you bought your Aetna plan on your own, the network can be narrower than an employer plan. Your member ID tells us exactly which network applies.

Sunview Wellness was the icing on the cake in my mental health journey and recovery and it honestly changed my life for the better..This program was outstanding in the approach they implement to help all of their clients. The important thing is you have to really want the help and do the work to get where you want and need to be. I believe participation in the group therapy is essential even though it may not be easy at first. Every single person that works at Sunview Wellness is caring and really wants everyone to get well. Laura Contreras was my therapist and she is one of the most caring empathetic individuals I have ever come across. She was truly the right therapist for me. Mia stood out to me ( even though everyone was good) as an excellent group facilitator . Karissa Delaney the office manager was always a welcoming face in the morning. Sunview Wellness is second to none. The staff at Sunview are amazing people who truly want to make their clients lives better and healthier. The staff provides you and others with an environment conducive to healing, learning and managing your life. You are able to express yourself without judgment from the staff or other clients. You are provided guidance through group sessions, private one-on-one sessions with a therapist and written materials to use outside of the facility. Although Sunview Wellness is a business and needs revenue to survive, the staff focuses predominately on your health and not on its bottom line. Gabe is awesome! I have had therapists before at other practices and he is one of the most empathetic and down to earth providers I have had. The group facilitators and other staff there are very kind and helpful as well. The support to get you back onto a good mental health path is amazing. Would recommend if you want more help than just a one on one therapist but want to still go home and/or work after.
